DP Rigathi expected in Kisumu next week

The Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua is expected to open the 9th edition of Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) in Kisumu on Monday next week.

Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o said preparations are in top gear to ensure the county successfully hosts the national event.

Nyong’o said the county is ready to host President William Ruto who is expected in Kisumu on Friday and later play host to his DP next week.

“I want to sincerely thank our Deputy President for accepting to be our guest during the official opening of the matches,” he said.

He said the organizers of the event will be putting final preparations on the fixtures ahead of the sporting activity.

“The executive committee will from today start the final lane meetings with the county officials during which the fixtures for various categories will be issued,” he said.

Addressing a press conference in Kisumu, Nyong’o said the issue of insecurity in the lakeside city should not be dramatized.

He said such issues have been in the past and the security team have managed to deal with them.

“The security team is up to the task and nobody should be worried about security in Kisumu,” he said.

Nyong’o said he has the assurances of the county security team that everything is in place to offer an all-round security measures to all the guests who will converge in the city for a week-long activity.

He noted that arrests of culprits have been made and I am convinced that the situation has been rectified,” he said.

Kisumu city has been in the limelight in the recent days with killings occasioned by thugs attacking people and residential areas.
