Fishermen from Muhuru bay in Nyatike Sub County had called on the local and the county leaders to come out and purchase for them a patrol boat in a bid to help them address various challenges while undergoing fishing activities in the lake.
Led by Muhuru beach management unit chairman Tobias Muragiri they said that they had faced numerous challenges while undergoing fishing activities in the lake including their boats which had been capsizing each and every time with some fishermen drowning.
While speaking to Dala fm over the matter, Muragiri said that with the presence of the patrol boat they would be able to rescue such people and address such challenges when they arise calling on the local leaders led by the area MP Tom Odege to come out and assist them as he had promised earlier.
His sentiments were echoed by Ngore beach management unit chairman Lukas Sobu Sobu who said however threatened to rally the fishermen to avert paying of tax if their predicament shall not be addressed adding that it can also help them to address the bad fishing methods in the lake for enhancement of fish production in the region.
That however came just three days after three fishermen John Ochieng,James Osara and Lukas Otieno who drowned in the lake after their boat capsized are yet to be retrieved with the fishermen saying if they had the patrol boats would help them a great deal to in searching for their bodies.
